The effective management of periodical literature in higher education libraries is fundamental for quality research work. In higher educational institutions, lecturers and researchers strongly depend on periodical literature as reliable information sources to effectively carry out their academic work. Without controversy, periodical literature constitutes perhaps 75% of all publications and an indispensable part from the point of view of research. In achieving all these libraries in higher educational institutions in Sierra Leone should select for their readership, periodicals that reflect the concerns of these institutions and higher proportion should be retained forever-their use will more frequently cite articles. In Sierra Leone it is inconceivable that libraries in institutions of higher education could operate effectively without a well-developed periodical collection, in which case Users of these libraries need periodical publications to keep them abreast of latest developments and current information in their areas of interest.
